Points and question scoring
A new question starts life as a poll with no points — every answer is “correct”, nothing is scored and the question doesn't figure in the score. Great for opinions and surveys. You turn scoring on inside the question with the Set points per answer switch; the editor pre-fills sensible values for you to adjust.
Point fields by question type
Single answer, number, open-ended question — points for a correct answer + optional minus points for a wrong one.
Multiple answers — points for each correctly ticked option + a minus for each wrongly ticked one. A player who ticks nothing gets nothing (not even a minus).
Ranking — points for each correct position + a minus for a wrong one. The default is 1 point per position.
Estimate — three values: Tolerance (±), Points for an exact hit and Minus outside tolerance. Within the tolerance, points fall smoothly from the full amount (an exact hit) down to 1 point at the edge of the tolerance. Defaults: tolerance 5, 10 points.
Star rating — a single field: points for taking part. No penalties.
When the answer is known — quiz vs. prediction
For every scored question you choose with the “I already know the answer” / “It hasn't happened yet” switch.
I already know the answer = a classic knowledge quiz: you mark the correct answer as you create the question (the radio button/checkbox next to an option, a number, text with variants, the correct order) and the player sees their points as soon as they finish.
It hasn't happened yet = a prediction on a future event: you enter the correct answer only after the event via Evaluate (see How to make a prediction duelgo).
The two modes can be mixed within one duelgo — some questions quiz-style, some predictions. As soon as a duelgo contains at least one question with a known answer, or a results message, instant evaluation turns on automatically and after finishing the player sees their score from the known questions.
Speed bonus and time limit
For a scored question with a known answer, you can turn on a bonus of up to +50% points for a fast correct answer (measured against the time limit when there is one, or within the first 7 seconds when there isn't). Details in How to make a time-limited question.
Tips for fair scoring
Use minus points sparingly — being punished for a guess hurts more than missing a bonus, and it discourages players from finishing.
For open-ended questions, list as many accepted answer variants as you can (separated by commas) — “Messi, Lionel Messi, L. Messi”. Capitalisation is ignored.
If it turns out at evaluation that the correct answer isn't among the options at all, the question can also be evaluated as “no answer is correct”.
